Thought of the week
The young and vibrant Muslim community was finally ready to make the move north to the city of Yathrib, which would later be renamed to Madinatul Nabi or the City of the Prophet. Just as we previously stated, without doubt the faith of Islam has not considered "Islamic Government" as the ultimate goal, rather, it is the means through which the teachings of justice and equality can be put into practice.

Therefore, when the Prophet and his companions made the move to Madinah, what was the first thing that they established: was it the public treasury; was it a strong and fortified army and military presence to attack invaders; was it a court of justice or was it something else?

As history itself testifies, the first thing which the Prophet and his companions did was to build a Masjid - the House of Allah - since the Masjid is the center of everything which needs to be enacted within the society. In summary, the entire foundation of this new government was to be founded on the spiritual pillars of the Masjid.

Again, this is a lesson for us that when it comes to management through the principles of Islam, we need to ensure that our actions and deeds are line with Islamic teachings and principles. Where as we may not need to go to a physical Masjid to run or business, corporation or non-profit charity, we need to ensure that we do so within the 'spiritual' Masjid since Allah sees and is aware of what we do in all areas. Thus, our interaction with others who are below us on the corporate ladder or lower in authority must be done according to the teachings of the faith.

As we know, the Masjid was the university of Islam; the Masjid was the center for training and spiritual growth of the Muslims; the Masjid was the command centre for the Muslim army; the Masjid was even the court of true justice and arbitration for the Prophet and the followers of the faith! Thus, the House of Allah played more than just the role of a place of prayers and worship. It was the Masjid which was the place of all forms of worship and obedience to Allah.

In short, in addition to the Masjid being the centre for spiritual growth and training, it was also the centre for gathering the forces of Islam and one in which all of the needs and necessities of the Muslims would be taken care of and maintained - including the management and administration which this new society of believers would be in need of...

To be continued.
