Wiladat 3rd Imam (AS), 3rd Shaban 1425 - 18th September 2004
The blessed month of Shabaan is filled with happiness for the followers of
the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). It is in this month that we commemorate the birth of
four towering personalities (three of whom are Imams), the first being the
grandson of the Prophet (or as the Quran refers to him, the son of the Prophet)
- Imam Hussein ibne Ali (AS).

Wiladat Hazrat Abbas (AS), 4th Shaban 1425 - 19th September 2004
Although not an Imam nor regarded as one of the Masoom, Hazrat Abbas ibne
Ali (AS) possesses a very great rank in the sight of Allah (SWT). Born in the
immaculate family of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), he was the half-brother of two
Imams - Hasan and Hussein (peace be upon both of them).

The Ornament of the Worshippers is one of the titles given to the Imam whose
birth anniversary we also celebrate in this month of Shaban - our 4th Imam, Imam
Ali ibnil Hussein Zainul Abideen (AS). A descendent of the Prophet of Islam from
his father's side, his mother was the daughter of the then Emperor of the
Persian Empire, according to some scholars.

Thought of the week
Continuation from last week
The second characteristic which a leader or manager must have, according to the
Islamic narrations is that of planning and forecasting for the future. Once the
head of the business or organization has consulted with his advisors and they
have made a decision on a particular issue, it is then time to plan and forecast
in regards to what has been decided to ensure that what was determined will be
put into place.
A historical example of how planning and forecasting was put into practice is
when Imam Husain (peace be upon him) was travelling towards Kerbala.
At one juncture, he commanded those with him to take extra water with them,
something which was out of the ordinary for his friends and companions! However,
since he was planning for "the future" and had an inkling for what was in store
for them, he made sure his family and friends did as they were told.
When they finally reached to the area where Hurr was stationed and saw that his
troops were thirsty, the Imam commanded that the excess water be given to them.
This act of planning for a future event, which later on "paid off" in Hurr
leaving the side of Kufr to join the side of the truth may not have been
possible had it not been for this one simple act of the Imam.
There are other examples in the history of the Ahlul Bait in which they planned
for themselves and also for their followers.
One other example is when the 6th Imam commanded his students to write down the
narrations and things which they learn from studying under him. This was ordered
as the Imam wanted them to know that in the future, the only way for his words
to carry forward was for them to be written down and propagated - again, the
Imam was planning for the future!
To be continued.
