As we near the martyrdom anniversary of Sayyida Fatimah az-Zahra (AS) the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), we ought to take time out of our schedule to not only study the life of this great woman, but to also take some time to study the circumstances surrounding the events which transpired shortly before her death. Thought of the week
When it come to management and administration principles according to Islamic thought and philosophy, it is not only us Muslims, rather, even those who do not follow and accept our beliefs who have conceded and stated that Islam is one of the only faiths - if not the only - that spread around the world with great speed. This was not due to "the sword", rather, it was due to its teachings and morals and it was the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) who was the one either directly or indirectly responsible for this growth.

George Bernard Shaw has written: "If a man like Muhammad were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems that would bring it the much needed peace and happiness."

In addition, in the work "The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History" written by Michael Hart, he contends that, "My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular level . It is this unparalleled combination of secular and religious influence which I feel entitles Muhammad to be considered the most influential single figure in human history"

One only needs to see the changes he brought about in the Arabian Peninsula in the short span of 23 years of his 'official' Prophetic mission and how his skills in management and leadership brought the entire area under the banner of Monotheism. Not only this, but he was also able to unite the various factions and groups under one key goal and objective - obviously with the help of Allah and His miracles, however also through employing methods which were left behind for us to learn and implement. And as we recall, the Qur'an tells us that, "Surely in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example." and thus, we must learn from him and implement his methods in every aspect of our life.
